In 2007 as I've mentioned on earlier news pages, Tim Rees and Caterham School gave me the opportunity to both working at the school producing my own work, while doing some specialized teaching with students.
Not until forced to wearing a badge during school, indicating to staff I wasn't a casual thief and enabling a free pass to the school's sumptuous canteen, did i realise it stated "City of London Freemens School. Rob Sollis Artist in Residence".
This tag has had a great effect on me, one I take with great responsibly and pride. Teaching one to one or in a group, during lunchtime or after school clubs, the enthusiasm from the students is inspiring.
Indeed it was during my schooling that I first discovered an interest in clay. I too was nurtured through those early steps with the help of my art teacher. It seems fitting that I should repay this debt and at CLFS I can.
In March this year we staged an exhibition at the school, see exhibitions. Tim Rees and I remain committed to this alliance. Most recently our ideas of creating our own art courses for the school at my farm in Portugal. |
